IAM4kids mentoring is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit, faith-based mentoring program that works in conjunction with school boards to provide one-on-one mentoring to students in need of guidance.
This organization is where the bulk of my mentoring and non-profit consulting experience developed. When I was looking at a pathway to bring mentoring into the Lawrence County school system, I approached Theresa Beck, founder of the original IAM4kids.
Before I joined her, she worked in the schools and community to help vulnerable children know the love of Christ. The organization’s reputation was so ingrained in our community, I asked her if we could add mentoring as a focus of the program.
In 2006, we restructured the program, rewrote the mission and vision, and set a new board of directors in place. That’s when we became IAM4kids Mentoring. Theresa is still our president and treasurer.
We launched our official one-to-one mentoring initiative in December 2007.
For the past 11 years, I’ve trained hundreds of mentors that have made a real difference in the lives of the kids of Lawrence County, Tenn. through IAM4kids. Now, we are expanding into two other school systems and my vision is to take this program to communities across the United States.
